An Abercrombie Green Earth Event booth will be on the lawn outside the UH-Manoa Law School Library on Thursday, April 22, 2010, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Faculty and students can register to vote and meet with former Congressman Neil Abercrombie at 1:00 p.m.

University of Hawaii Professional Assembly: Legislators’ Attack on UH Budget Shows Disrespect for Local Students

On Saturday, March 7th, the UHPA Board of Directors voted to endorse Congressman Neil Abercrombie for Governor of Hawaii. The Board’s decision came as a result of both an interview with the candidate and a membership survey indicating strong approval for Congressman Abercrombie among UHPA members.

The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Coalition-Hawai`i (MLK) is again honored to extend our invitation to the community and its many organizations and individuals to participate in the 22nd Annual MLK Celebration Parade & Rally on Monday, January 18, 2010. All are invited to participate in the numerous other related events on and about this date. Our 2010 theme is another of Dr. King's profound statements: "We may have all come on different ships, but we're in the same boat now."

Above is the title of a speech that was presented at the Smart Business Hawaii (SBH) meeting on November 19, 2009 by former UHPA Associate Executive Director John Radcliffe. John was the Executive Director of the Hawaii State Teachers Association (HSTA), a Democratic Party primary candidate for the 1st Congresstional District in the 1988 election, and is now a principle in the Capital Consultant lobbying firm. John is known for his candor and wit. Those in attendance, including SBH Executive Director (Republican Senator) Sam Slom, and Republican Houe members Barbara Marumoto and Gene Ward were taken by John's candid views, but they did not protest too loudly their disagreement.

The Annual Fall Faculty Representative Forum was held on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at the Dole Cannery Ballrooms.

"UH Profs Need a Lesson in Humility," written by Dan Boylan, a Professor at UH-West Oahu, was featured in the September 30, 2009 Midweek.

UHPA Executive Director J.N. Musto calls on UH Board of Regents to demand that legislators provide the revenue that supports increased enrollments and research & training that is bringing historic levels of funding to the state.

The Board of Regents has listed on its agenda that it will consider, and no doubt approve, granting tenure to the President Designate M.R.C. Greenwood in the John A. Burns School of Medicine.

UHPA members located in District 5 will be receiving a postcard supporting the election of Nathaniel Kinney. Kinney is a labor attorney representing the Painters Union, an AFL-CIO affiliate. He has significant knowledge regarding collective bargaining and the current battles that the public sector unions are facing. District 5 encompasses Manoa with a candidate field of 14.
