SB 410 Designed to Raise the Bar of Accountability

By UHPA bargaining team: UHPA President Lynne Wilkens, UHPA Bargaining Team Chair Karla Hayashi, Amy Nishimura, Glenn Teves and Matthew Tuthill Who's accountable? When the University of Hawai‘i (UH) leadership gets itself in deep kimchee and manages to grab the headlines, alumni and others cringe. It’s the same pattern: legislators start to ask questions and restrict funding that unfortunately affects programs, faculty and, most importantly, students and research that benefits our state. Do we cry afoul? No. Does anyone demand heads roll? [...]

Since the Legislature is not in session there are two possible routes to funding: A special Legislative session is called and [...]

Dear Governor, Help grow Hawaii’s future by paying our teachers! #deargovhi @govhawaii

Dear Gov Ige, Every year we have the thought of moving off island for a better place for our children. This is because there aren't enough role models and enough value put into education here in Hawaii. Help us make that decision to stay by putting your resources into education to promote STEM focus degrees. Also we struggle here at Kauai CC to recruit qualified math/science instructors. Please help us to be competitive!!! I still remember your promise for STEM when you [...]

Dear Governor, Please help us stay home and contribute to our community. #deargovhi @govhawaii

Dear Governor Ige, Nine years ago I returned home from a well-paying job to raise my son in Hawaii. Doing what I love and am passionate about my homeland is beyond words. But the fact that our cost of living is so high and our salary is not commensurate makes it difficult to stay. Please help us (all us HI raised folks) stay home and contribute to our community. Dear Governor, We need to do what we can to keep educational quality if we expect Hawaii students to remain here. #deargovhi @govhawaii

1. We need to do what we can to keep educational quality if we expect Hawaii students to remain here. 2. We have suffered greatly from this in the 23 years I've been here. 3. Fair compensation will enable us to keep good faculty. Faculty morale is at a low point. This situation is critical. Add your voice and send the Governor a postcard
