The UHPA Board of Directors adopted an amended Policy on Representing Faculty Members on August 29, 2024. A representation policy was first adopted by the Board of Directors on June 30, 2018 due to the June 27th decision regarding the U. S. Supreme Court case, Janus v. AFSCME [586 A.S. (2018)]. This Supreme Court decision, applicable only to government employees represented by unions, states that non-members are not subject to mandatory union fees, but may choose to pay union fees, effective immediately. The justices acknowledged this change also means that non-members who do not choose to pay fees are no longer entitled to all of the services members enjoy.
Please review the policy and call the UHPA office if you have any questions in regards to representation.
