Faculty members, teaching 1/2 time or more, are included by state law in Bargaining Unit 07 (BU07). UHPA is the exclusive representative of BU07. As a BU07 member, you have a choice to join UHPA membership. Additionally, UHPA is affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), the largest national higher education union.

This is a dual-purpose form for non-members to join membership/register and for current active members to register as a member-user online. All information submitted will be kept in strictest confidence at UHPA.

An ACTIVE MEMBER of UHPA is entitled to a full range of member benefits, including union representation; the right to vote, hold office, serve on committees; a no-cost $20,000 life insurance policy; and participation in other UHPA & AFT member benefit programs & discounts.

Dues in the amount of 1% of a faculty member’s base salary is deducted each pay period. In addition, $10.21 will be deducted per paycheck for UHPA’s affiliation with AFT, all of which will go directly to AFT. New BU07 members have ninety days from their date of hire to join without penalty. Per the *UHPA Policy on representing faculty members, new BU07 members who enroll after their first ninety days of employment will be required to pay a $250 initiation fee. **This fee will be collected separately in ten automatic payroll deductions ($25 each pay period).

(Dues payments are not deductible as charitable contributions for federal income tax purposes but may be a miscellaneous itemized deduction.)
