In recognition of the current political climate and recent developments including enhanced ICE enforcement, the war in Iran, and the progress of the SAVE Act, UHPA is taking a stand. We are partnering with our fellow American Federation of Teachers (AFT) affiliate, the Hawaii Nurses and Healthcare Professionals (HNHP), at the “No Dictators” event on March 28th to demonstrate our deep concern over harmful actions and policies being issued by the current administration that have local and global impacts.
This national event is our crucial opportunity to counter those who seek to unilaterally further their own agenda while disregarding the collective voice, shared values, and democratic principles that unite us all. By joining this protest, we are defending those this administration seeks to silence and our commitment to democracy – a government of, by, and for the people.
Stand With UHPA Leadership on Oahu
UHPA will be participating at the rally taking place at the State Capitol in Honolulu. We urge all UHPA members to stand in unity and solidarity at any of the events around Hawaii.
To ensure we mobilize effectively, please note the logistics for the Oahu rally:
- When: Saturday, March 28 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
- Where: Hawai‘i State Capitol – meet near the Patsy T. Mink statue fronting the Hawaii State Public Library at 10:45 am and we will walk over to the Capitol as a group (be on the lookout for UHPA signs).
- Solidarity Gear: We will have on hand a limited supply of UHPA branded t-shirts for you to wear, if you choose.
- Bring Your Voice: We encourage you to bring your own signs and your fighting spirit!
