Young musicians of Oahu gather together in a concert to raise funds for Honolulu's beloved and financially troubled Symphony. This great event is set for Friday, May 14th at 7:30 p.m. in the UH Manoa - Orvis Auditorium. The admission is $20 with a discounted price of $15 for students. All proceeds will support the Honolulu Symphony Musicians.
UHPA has endorsed Congressman Abercrombie and encourages interested faculty to contribute to the election effort by attending this event.
The University of Hawaii Professional Assembly and the UH-Manoa Faculty Senate invite the university community to meet with Congressperson Neil Abercrombie on Friday, February 19, at the UH-Manoa Campus Center Ballroom. Congressperson Abercrombie will be addressing faculty on “How to respond to the fiscal crisis at UH-Manoa: the way forward for Public Higher Education in the State of Hawaii” at 12:30 p.m. and he will be available to 2:30 p.m. to answer any questions.
We have all been moved these past few days with images and news of the great devastation of Haiti due to the earthquake. News is still being gathered regarding the situation of the Education International affiliate, Confédération Nationale des Éducateurs d’Haïti (CNEH), its leaders and members. We await word from CNEH’s Jean Lavaud, René Jolibois, and Magalie Dubois, as well as others who make up the CNEH education union family.
In the March 2009 issue of “Holomua,” the State Employees’ Retirement System’s (ERS) newsletter for active public employees, the eligibility requirements to participate in the conversion from the Non-contributory Plan service to the Hybrid Plan service are indicated. It is reported that a consultant would assist the ERS with the conversion project. For your information, the September 2008 report on the Discussion of Alternatives for Factors to Convert Class C Service to Class H Service by Gabriel Roeder Smith & Company, consultants and actuaries for the ERS, is attached.
