Women from unions across the western U.S. and Canada have an opportunity to meet, sharing ideas, strategies, information, building solidarity, learning new skills, and enriching their work by meeting with other women from a wide range of unions and professions. Labor Education Centers have hosted the SIUW and this year will be the 29th conference, which will be held at Reed College in Portland, Oregon from July 6-10, 2010.
Pursuant to the provisions of the new contract, a joint committee has been charged to reviewing and recommending changes to the CCCM #2250 that had established teaching equivalencies for contact hour based instruction and non-instructional activities.
UHPA has strongly urged Governor Linda Lingle to not veto House Bill 444, H.D.1, S.D.1 regarding civil unions. We encourage all members of the faculty and the community–at–large to join us in urging the Governor to allow this measure to become law in the name of equal justice and civil rights.
The AFL CIO is planning a walk and talk this Sunday to encourage voters to support Senator Hanabusa in her bid for the CD 1 seat. Information will be available for all participants at Mililani High School Tennis Court Parking Lot. UHPA members are encouraged to participate.
At its meeting on April 23, 2010, UHPA Board of Directors conducted its annual election of officers and Executive Committee members. Active members were notified of the results by email.
Active members for Hawaii CC, Kauai CC, UH-Hilo, and UH-Manoa participated in a Board of Directors election for their campuses. The results of that election follows.
In the past few weeks, UHPA members have received several communications from UHPA regarding the nominations and elections of Board of Directors, Faculty Representatives, Delegates to the National Education Association Representative Assembly meeting, UHPA’s Annual Membership meeting, and the Hawaii Great Teachers Seminar. The following is a reminder of the various events and deadline dates.

Join us at Abercrombie for Governor headquarters (Ward Warehouse, 2nd Floor, next door to Kincaid?s) on Monday, May 3, 2010, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. for a discussion about Public Education in Hawaii. Attendance is free of charge. Refreshments will be served.
There will be two last sign-waving events on April 29 and May 3. Signs will be available for everyone. Please join in and help make a last push for Senator Colleen Hanabusa as this effort will boost awareness to voters. See below for times and locations.
