For employees who are participating in the bus pass program, you may pick-up the January 2013 bus pass on Wednesday, December 12, through Friday, December 14, 2012. The UHM Parking Office will be closed during the last two (2) weeks of December due to the supplemental time off days and/or “power down” initiative. Employees may resume pick-up on January 2, 2013.
UHPA members voted on the question “ Do you approve or disapprove of the proposed Amended and Restated UHPA Bylaws?” Ballots were sent to 3,032 UHPA members.
This year is the 50th anniversary of the "I Have a Dream" speech, which was delivered as part of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom in 1963. This year is also the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation. Because of these historic moments, when President Obama is inaugurated on January 21 - which is also the King holiday - he will be sworn in using Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Bible and Abraham Lincoln's Bible. The results of the upcoming general election will be critical in shaping the future for UH faculty. The UHPA Elections Committee has invested the time to review the candidates and their positions to help in your voting decisions. UHPA endorses the following candidates because of their commitment to public higher education and their support for the role of faculty within the University of Hawaii system:
The UHPA Political Endorsement Committee interviewed many of the legislative candidates in person or over the phone. Their recommendations for endorsements were presented to the UHPA Board of Directors which voted to approve the endorsements. This may be the first time some of the candidates are running, while others may already be serving as legislators but face challenge in the general election. Those interviewed were new candidates or UHPA had specific questions on topics important to UH faculty.
A center for ocean science research, a program for volcano monitoring, and projects to enhance the postsecondary education for Hawaii’s students. What do all of these valuable UH programs have in common? They are being characterized in our nation’s capital as a complete waste of money and should no longer receive federal funding.
