Legislative decisions significantly affect the quality and affordability of public higher education in the State of Hawaii.

Legislative decisions also immediately affect the salaries, working conditions, and opportunities available to all of UHPA’s members.

It is crucial that all members of the UH community, including students, faculty, staff and administrators, participate fully in the democratic process in order to try to influence the formulation and successful passage of legislation that understands the importance of supporting and adequately funding higher education in Hawai’i.

Towards that aim, a rally aimed at getting out the UH vote has been organized to encourage students, faculty, staff and administrators at UH to use their voice by using their vote.

This is a non-partisan effort encouraging all those who are eligible to participate in the electoral process.

There will be a short line-up of speakers drawn from all sectors of the UH community who will address issues of importance in the upcoming election. There will also be live music, information and vote-registration booths, give-aways of signed Jack Johnson CDs and light refreshments. Hawaiian Studies Professor, Jon Kamakawiwo’ole Osorio, will be the emcee for the rally.

*We need your help* Please spread the word to your colleagues, your staff and your students*

Co-sponsors of the rally include: the University of Hawai’i Professional Assembly (UHPA); the Graduate Students Organization (GSO); Kanu Hawai’i and; KTUH (radio).
